Stawnichy’s Mundare Sausage is proud to announce the winner of our 2023 $5000 grant program – the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society. This $5000 grant went towards funding their annual beloved summer camp program which celebrated its 35th year of operations in 2023!  This annual camp brings in Ukrainian youths from all over the province, and helps to educate, preserve and promote Ukrainian heritage in Alberta.

The summer camp holds a special place and many memories for our own Stawnichy’s family, as four of the 3rd generation grandchildren attended the camp every year when they were young. Camp-goers have fun exploring the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village and learning what life was like for early Ukrainian-Canadian settlers in our province. It also offers a sense of home and belonging to Ukrainian newcomers who have recently been displaced from their homes. From perogy making, to crafts, scavenger hunts, animal interactions and more- the camp is something to look forward to every year.

The Stawnichy’s team made it out in-person this past summer to get the full camp experience! We met its dedicated leaders, and witnessed firsthand the impact of the grant on the immersive educational experiences provided to the Ukrainian camp-goers. Everyon was treated to a Stawnichy’s hotdog lunch, and enjoyed the beautiful backdrop of the Ukrainian Village.

This grant program was intended to recognize and reward an organization that made exceptional contributions to the Ukrainian-Albertan community during a time when it needed strength the most. FOUVS has demonstrated local support and cultural strength throughout this conflicting time, as well as years before, and we believe that they were well-deserving of these funds.
Congratulations to the FOUVS society, and we look forward to seeing how you continue to grow and remain an important support for our community and its youths.
